An SUV in which a teenager was apparently taking driving lessons hit a series of two-wheelers parked on a busy Howrah road on Monday morning.
Police said there were no injuries. The road, near the Dumurjala stadium, usually remains crowded with morning walkers and the accident could have led to serious consequences, said residents.
The accident took place on Ring Road around 7.45am.
The Mahindra Bolero SUV went out of control and hit several motorcycles, three cycles and a scooter, according to eyewitnesses.
A senior officer of the Howrah traffic police said the car and the person at the wheel were detained.
When The Telegraph called Chatterjeehat police station, in whose area falls the accident spot, an officer said the person at the wheel was 18 years old.
“He was taking driving lessons. The SUV skidded off the road and brushed some two-wheelers. No case has been registered,” the officer said.
“A young man was driving and another man was seated beside him. The SUV suddenly swerved and hit one two-wheeler after another. At least seven motorcycles, three cycles and a scooter were damaged,” said a resident of the area.
