The incident on Wednesday morning happened in front of several students and guardians, many of whom were scared as the injured was bleeding profusely.

The alleged attacker was holding a blood-stained knife when he was handed to police, an officer said.

The police said Shaaz Abedin, 23, went to drop his mother at the school in Park Lane, near the Mullickbazar crossing, where she teaches.

A scooter was allegedly parked in a way that obstructed the thoroughfare and made it difficult for Abdedin to park their car.

“Shaaz Abedin found it difficult to park his car and started to honk at the scooter, which was obstructing the thoroughfare. After a few minutes, the owner of the scooter, Zeeshan Alam, turned up and an altercation between the two started,” said an officer of Park Street police station.

The police said they exchanged foul language, after which Alam rushed to his scooter and took out a knife from under the seat of the vehicle.

“Before anyone could react, he slashed Abedin on his face, leaving him with a deep cut on his chin,” a police officer said.

Abedin was taken to a private hospital at Minto Park where he was administered 11 stitches.

The incident happened in front of the school when children and teachers were entering the campus. Many screamed in fear, while some of the passers-by tried to overpower Alam when he attacked Abedin.

“It was a big knife. It has been seized,” the officer said.

Alam was handed to the officers of Park Street police station, who went to the spot after getting an alert about the altercation.

Alam, who is a driver by profession, has been booked under IPC Section 326, which deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a sharp and dangerous weapon.

A crowd had gathered in front of the school. An officer said traffic was disrupted on the stretch for a few minutes before cops reached and dispersed the mob.
