“The alleged offence was committed in 2019 but it was reported to Narendrapur police station in December 2023. According to the complaint, the victim, a colleague of the accused schoolteacher, paid Rs 20 lakh to the duo who blackmailed her with her objectionable video. But she decided to report it to the police after they started to demand more money,” said an officer of the Baruipur police directorate.

Police said the two women and the man were “friends”.

“The incident had happened in the house of the victim where the other two friends were invited. The accused duo had stayed over and the accused woman video-recorded when the man became intimate with the victim,” said an officer.

As the man is a resident of Narendrapur, the victim filed a complaint with Narendrapur police station and the name of the other schoolteacher emerged during the investigation, the police said.

The man was arrested last month followed by the arrest of the woman on February 1. Both are in judicial custody.

An officer said the mobile phone of all three persons had been seized.

The police said that the two women “who were otherwise friends and worked as teachers in the same school” no longer work in the same place.

An officer quoted the victim as saying that she was forced to report the matter to the police because the demands of the accused did not end even after they were paid Rs 20 lakh.
