A team from the Swedish embassy met Bidhannagar city police officers on Wednesday with the consent from the family of the deceased Swedish national to claim his body.
The police said they could conduct the post-mortem on Thursday.
Piortr Lukaszyk, who had come to Kolkata on May 10 and checked into a star hotel along EM Bypass, shifted to a guest house in New Town on May 13. His body was found in the guest house on Tuesday afternoon.
“We have not been able to conduct the post-mortem on Wednesday as we were waiting for someone from the family to claim the body first. Today, officials of the Swedish embassy came to claim the body with official documents. The post-mortem will be carried out on Thursday,” an officer of Bidhannagar police said on Wednesday.
The police said the purported note found on the body on Tuesday was translated on Wednesday. It roughly mentioned that he was thanking his family members, especially his wife, and that he wished that he could see his son grow up.
The cops said they were yet to access Lukaszyk’s belongings as the room has been sealed for forensic examination. “We have not been able to check his passport and immigration papers, which are inside the room,” said an officer.
