A city businessman died after falling from the balcony of his 11th floor apartment on Loudon Street in south-central Kolkata early on Friday.

Police said they have not found a suicide note but suspect that financial losses in his business could be a reason that drove the father of two to his death.

His family did not lodge any complaint with the police till late on Friday. An unnatural death case has been initiated with Shakespeare Sarani police station.

Mukesh Khemka, 52, a resident of 7 Loudon Street, was found on the ground under the 18-storeyed building overlooking Park Street around 6am.

He was declared dead at Belle Vue Clinic, the police said.

A senior officer of Shakespeare Sarani said Khemka ran a trading business and had apparently incurred huge losses in the past few months.

“We will examine his bank accounts and financial documents to zero in on the possibility of him ending his life because of financial losses,” said an investigator.

Cops said Khemka had called a relative who had helped him in distress in the past some time before the incident. The Telegraph could not contact the family to verify the claims.
