A 25-year-old man, who worked as a light technician, was stabbed ina residential neighbourhood in Bansdroni on Monday night.

Police said a scuffle between Prasenjit Das and his attacker, Kaushik Barui, 27, was the outcome of a heated verbal exchange between the two.

Das succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. Barui has been arrested.

The police said Barui, who works in a mineral water manufacturing unit, was returning home at Sonali Park near Dinesh Nagar when he met some of his friends, including Das, of South Anandapally in Dinesh Nagar.

“Barui got engaged in a heated discussion with Das on a personal matter, their friends later said. In a fit of rage, Barui took out a knife, stabbed Das on the left side of his chest and fled the spot,” said an officer of Bansdroni police station.

Das’s friends took him to MR Bangur Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police have started a murder case against Barui who was arrested on Tuesday from a place in Renia that falls under the jurisdiction of Narendrapur police station on the south-eastern fringes of the city.

The murder weapon is yet to be recovered, the cops said.

“An investigation has started. We are in the process of recording the statements of the witnesses. We are also trying to recover the knife that was used in the murder,” said the officer.
