Son ‘admits’ to killing mother near Rajarhat, surrenders

Based on his statement, police went to his house and found the body of his mother

A man who allegedly killed his mother went to Narayanpur police station near Rajarhat early on Tuesday to admit to his crime. Based on his statement, police went to his house and found the body of his mother, police said.

The police said Somnath Santra, 30, allegedly got involved in a scuffle with mother Lakshmi on Monday night and strangled her in a fit of rage. Around 1.30am, Santra went to Narayanpur police station and told the duty officer that he had killed his mother.

A team of officers went to Santra’s home and found his mother dead.

The police said the alleged incident happened at Lane Number 21 of the Purbachal area in Narayanpur past Monday midnight.

Officers who spoke to Santra said he was unemployed and had been disturbed because of financial crisis at home.

“According to his statement, Santra was married but his wife left him because of his unemployment. We are yet to verify his statement,” said an officer.

The women’s body was sent for post-mortem on Tuesday.
