A contingent of the 16th Bn, Assam Regiment, marches down Red Road during the Republic Day parade on Wednesday.  With its regimental centre in Happy Valley, Shillong, Assam Regiment was raised in June 1941 to ward off the Japanese attack through Northeast India during the Second World War.
