Six women and four men were arrested from an HB Block house on Monday after a police raid found them in compromising positions and busted their sleaze racket.
An officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said they had received a complaint from a resident that a sleaze racket was being operated from this house, and men and women were seen entering and leaving at odd hours everyday.
“Based on the complaint the Bidhannagar South police force conducted a raid and found the resident’s fears to be true. Several men and women were found in compromising positions inside the rooms,” the officer said, adding that the caretaker of the house was among those arrested.
Ranjan Poddar, councillor of the local Ward 34, said the owners of the particular house had been living elsewhere for the past several years and the caretaker had the keys to all three floors of the building.
“I had also received several complaints and had asked my ward assistant to look into it. He too had spotted men and women getting in and out of the house at all times of the day as well as night,” said Poddar.
The councillor, who accompanied the police during the raid, said the caretaker had allegedly facilitated the sleaze racket to operate and the owner did not have any information about what was going on in the house. “We are getting in touch with the owner and will prevent such things happening again,” said Poddar.
Another raid was conducted by the Bidhannagar East police station earlier this week. Here too several men and women were caught in compromising positions and picked up. Officers, however, are not revealing details as investigation is still on.
A senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said they were keeping a close watch on houses that were unoccupied as they had received information and complaints that several were being used as sleaze dens, keeping their owners in the dark.
“We will also monitor guest houses. There is a sizeable number of houses in Salt Lake whose owners don’t stay there and those are left at the mercy of caretakers,” said the officer.
