Ten men were arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly operating two fake call centres in Salt Lake’s Sector V.
An officer of the CID said they had received information that some call centres were duping foreigners by telling them they were calling from major software providers to help them resolve issues related to their computer or that they had won an online lottery.
The men would also call up people in states in India and promise them large sums of money through claims from insurance companies, telling them they could cash in on huge returns by activating their “dormant insurance policies”.
A CID team raided a call centre on the second floor of a building in Sector V from where they picked up six men. The team then raided another office and picked up four others.
The men were produced before a Salt Lake court on Thursday.
