St Paul’s Mission School is coming up with a second English medium school on Amherst Street this April.

The new campus was inaugurated on Wednesday by Reverend Paritosh Canning, the bishop of Kolkata Diocese of the Church of North India, and chairman of the school’s board of governors.

The second campus will start with nursery to Class I. The admission for the April session has already started. The existing school, St Paul’s Mission School, Scott Lane, was established in 1884 and a significant number of students of the school belong to children from low-income families.

“We are right in the middle of the market place and despite the demand for an English medium education it was not possible for us to expand within our existing space,” said Sanchita Biswas, principal of both the institutions.

Biswas said since this space was available, the management decided to renovate an old building and start a school that would cater to parents who would want to give English-medium education to their children.

The school would be affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations. “There is a need for English medium school in that area as well,” said a school official.
