Scooterist dies after getting hit by truck

A man riding a scooter died in north Kolkata on Thursday after a truck hit him on Cossipore Road and he was flung off into the road.

Biswajit Nag, 44, a resident of BC Chatterjee Road, was wearing a helmet and did not have any external injury mark on him, a police officer said. He was taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead.

Police said Nag, a garments trader, was going to Burrabazar for some work when the incident happened around 3.45pm.

“We are trying to get the footage of the nearest CCTV camera. From eye-witnesses we gathered that the scooterist was hit by the truck, Both were travelling in the same direction,” said an officer of Chitpore police station.

The truck driver fled the spot leaving his vehicle on the road. It was later impounded by the officers of Chitpore police station. A case under sections of rash and negligent driving and causing death because of negligence has been initiated against the driver.

Nag is survived by his family, including his elderly parents, the police said.
