The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday informed Justice Amrita Sinha of the high court that her order to proceed with the scheduled interrogation of Abhishek Banerjee on October 3 could not be carried out as the Trinamul leader had moved a division bench against the order.

The inquiry is related to alleged irregularities in recruitments for government-aided schools.

Banerjee did not appear before the ED that day because he was in Delhi attending a pre-scheduled political programme.

He had moved the division bench challenging Justice Sinha’s order to the ED to ensure that the October 3 inquiry was not hampered.

“The division bench issued an order asking us (ED) to provide Abhishek Banerjee time till October 10 to submit the papers related to his accounts. If he fails to provide the
documents within the stipulated period, only then we can issue another summons to him,” the ED’s lawyer said on Tuesday.

The lawyer said that till his arrival in the court on Tuesday (October 10), the central agency had not received any papers from Banerjee.

The documents are related to Leaps and Bounds, the company whose CEO is said to be Banerjee.

After hearing the ED’s counsel, the judge scheduled the next hearing for November 30.

Papers handed to ED

Around 7pm, a representative of Banerjee submitted the papers to the ED.

Sources said two files were handed to the agency.
