Sarada Math general secretary passes away

Initiated by Swami Yatishwarananda, Pravrajika Amalaprana joined Sarada Math in 1957, serving in various capacities

The last rites of Pravrajika Amalaprana, the general secretary of Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, were completed on Monday in the presence of her followers, devotees and senior nuns of the Math.

Pravrajika Amalaprana passed away at 8.12pm on Sunday at the Sarada Math in Dakshineswar following a multiple organ failure, Math officials said.

Pravrajika Amalaprana was 92.

Born in 1931 in Mysore, Pravrajika Amalaprana completed her masters in History with a gold medal from the University of Mysore.

Initiated by Swami Yatishwarananda, Pravrajika Amalaprana joined Sarada Math in 1957, serving in various capacities.

Her journey included being appointed as the assistant secretary of Vidya Bhavan on January 1, 1971. Later she assumed the role of its principal.

Three years later, in April 1, 1974, she became a secretary, and remained so till
1999.

In 1983, Pravrajika Amalaprana was elected as a trustee of the Sarada Math and became a member of the governing body.

In May 1994, Pravrajika Amalaprana became the assistant secretary.

Five years later, she assumed the role of general secretary on November 17, 1999 after the passing away of Pravrajika Mokhsprana Mataji in August that year.

Pravrajika Amalaprana leaves behind a legacy of dedicated service and unwavering commitment to the ideals of Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, senior officials of the Sarada Math said.

Pravrajika Amalaprana was admitted to the Ramakrishna Mission Sevapratishthan on October 22 this year following chest pain and breathing difficulty. She later suffered two heart attacks while being under treatment at Sevapratishthan.

Math insiders said that Pravrajika Amalaprana gradually started suffering from other complications and these made her completely dependent on life-support mechanism.
