Singer Sandhya Mukherjee, who died on Tuesday evening, was cremated with full state honours at the Keoratala crematorium on Wednesday evening.
Mukherjee, whose voice enchanted generations, suffered from a fatal cardiac arrest on Tuesday at a private hospital in Kolkata. She was 90.
Her final journey began from Peace World in Topsia on Wednesday morning. From there she was brought to Rajya Sangeet Akademi.
Around 11.30am, the singer reached Rabindra Sadan where she was kept for close to five hours.
Around 5pm, a procession accompanying the veteran singer left for the Keoratala crematorium.
The procession covered the distance of around 3km from Rabindra Sadan to Keoratala. The Bengal chief minister and hundreds of others walked behind the hearse that carried the veteran singer.
Hundreds of people crowded the sidewalks for a last look at Mukherjee.
Many of her popular movie songs were played as the procession walked on.
Around 6pm, at Keoratala, she was given a gun salute by a police contingent. Mukherjee’s last rites began soon after.
