Two working photocopy machines have arrived at the Salt Lake court complex's copying and general records section and lawyers have resumed taking up cases and pleading for litigants.
Lawyers at the Salt Lake court complex had been abstaining from work since Monday to protest the breakdown of the sole photocopier there.
The Salt Lake court complex in Mayukh Bhavan has an ACJM court, the court of the civil judge and a special court.
The Bidhannagar Bar Association has close to 400 members and none of them had appeared to plead cases in the past few days. They resumed work on Friday.
A senior court official said they had procured these machines on an urgent basis. "The machines have been sourced on an ad-hoc basis. We are looking to revamp the copying section and more machines will be installed," the official said.
According to the bar association, over 1,000 certified copies of different cases are picked up by lawyers daily from the court.
Soma Mondal, secretary, Bidhannagar Bar Association, said they were relieved. "We were facing a lot of difficulties as certified copies are between 8 to 300 pages and every other day the old photocopier used to stop working."
Soumyajit Raha, executive committee member of the bar association and former secretary, said they were happy but more machines were needed.
