The two cousins, who were injured in the car that allegedly killed four on the airport-bound flank of VIP Road around 2am on Monday, are still admitted at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Cousins Kundan and Rajesh Mullick, in their 20s, who are from Howrah’s Salkia, were sitting in the rear passenger seat of the Mahindra XUV 300 that first hit a motorcycle before ramming into a truck at the Dum Dum Park intersection signal of VIP Road in northeast Kolkata.
Rescuers had to use a shovel to pry open a gap and extract the brothers from the mangled wreck of the car.
According to a hospital official, Kundan was still in ICU in a critical state. Rajesh is in the general ward and is likely to be discharged on Thursday.
On Wednesday, a senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said they wanted to speak to the brothers to create a sequence of events leading to the crash.
“Till now, we know that they hail from Salkia and boarded the car with driver Hiralal Jaiswara at the wheel from near their house. This is what the family members have told us. What is still not clear where the woman Puja Singh boarded the vehicle and where were they going at such a high speed so late at night?” said the officer.
