The tennis court got it in January 2022. Can the badminton court be far away?
Rosedale Garden in Action Area III has got two synthetic courts for its shuttlers. The opening was done on May 10 by former Bengal cricket team captain and coach Arun Lal.
“The two courts are in our air-conditioned multi-purpose hall which used to host weddings and our annual general meetings as well. It was a normal floor with court markings. We have about 70 residents who regularly play. The hardness of the floor had made it an injury risk for the players,” said Manoj Sharma, the vice-president of the Rosedale Garden Apartment Owners’ Association.

The association has even got a coach for those who seek to train. “For the last couple of years, we have also been organising a badminton championship for residents aged eight to 55 years. This year, with the new Yonex court in place, we are expecting greater participation. The tournament should be held some time in June,” said Niloy Dutta, the sports committee convenor, who plays badminton in the weekend mornings.
While the tennis court got a Yonex mat cover in 2022, the complex’s basketball court was renovated last year. “We have spent about Rs 1 crore on improving our sports facilities in recent times,” said Sharma.
Lal, who came at the invitation of Raj Kanojia, a resident who had retired as a director general of police, also played for a while on the new court. “Arun and I go back to our college days at St Stephen’s College in Delhi,” smiled Kanojia, who plays tennis regularly.
