The crumbling roads in Salt Lake are likely to get a makeover as a sum of Rs 1.5 crore has been allocated to every ward of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) which has 41 Wards, is in charge of road repairs not only in the township but also in several places along the VIP Road, including Kestopur, Baguiati, Ashwininagar, Teghoria, Kaikhali and parts of Rajarhat.
The civic body has banked only on patchwork repairs and no extensive road repairs have taken place in the last eight years.
Anita Mondal the deputy mayor of BMC and also the mayoral council member in charge of road repairs told The Telegraph on Wednesday that they had requested the urban development and municipal affairs department to help them carry out road repairs.
“Each of the 41 Wards will get Rs 1.5 crore that will be utilised for repairing the roads of the township as well as other places under our jurisdiction. This time we plan on relaying the entire surface of the road. We had been doing patchwork repairs on an ad hoc basis to ensure that the roads remained motorable,” said Mondal.
This newspaper reported on multiple occasions about the sorry condition of the roads in Salt Lake as well as its neighbouring areas.
