Two schools and a college run by Ramakrishna Mission have asked their students not to come to the campus for in-person classes following a renewed surge in Covid cases.
Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous), Narendrapur, had on December 20 issued a notice, asking students of select batches to reach the campus on January 2 for in-person classes.
On Saturday, principal Swami Shastrajnananda sent an email to the students saying the authorities were unsure about the resumption of in-person classes from January 4.
“Therefore, you are kindly requested to note that you may not be required to come mandatorily to the hostel on 2nd January…. All online classes and examinations will continue as usual.”
Any student encountering difficulty in attending online classes may stay on the campus. Such students will be allowed entry only if they have their parents’ consent and taken at least one dose of a Covid vaccine.
Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, had on Friday sent an email to the students who were promoted to Class X, those who will write Madhyamik and those in Class XI not to go to the campus.
Headmaster Brahmachari Turiyachaitanya said in-person classes of the students were to start on January 3. “We don’t want students to come now…. Let a clear picture emerge, then we will decide,” he said.
Swami Sarvalokananda, secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, said: “The state government is expected to come up with a standard operating procedure soon…. Once issued, we will decide accordingly and keep students posted.”
An official of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Purulia, said they, too, have asked the students promoted to Classes IX and X not to come to the campus.
