Rain on Tuesday for Kolkata, new system on radar for weekend

Some more rain is headed Kolkata's way on Tuesday and yet another cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around September 25, according to Met data updated on Tuesday morning.

The all India weather summary and forecast bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), updated at 7.45am on Tuesday said: “A low pressure area lies over southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.”

It said: “Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely to continue over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on 21st September, 2021. Isolated very heavy rainfall likely over Gangetic West Bengal on 21st September, 2021.”

It also said that a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over east-central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal around September 25.

“It is likely to move west-northwestwards and reach Odisha coast during subsequent 48 hours. Under its influence, a fresh spell of heavy rainfall likely over Odisha and adjoining areas from 26th September,” the bulletin said.
