Rain on Friday evening brought some relief from the stifling humidity the city had been suffering since morning.
The overcast conditions since morning had brought some relief from heat but the high humidity level had made the conditions unbearable.
In the evening, a cool breeze started to sweep the city before it started to rain.
G.K. Das, director of the India Meteorological Department, Kolkata, said the thunderclouds formed over Purulia and Bankura and moved towards Kolkata.
“The clouds passed over Kolkata on their way to the Bay of Bengal. The cloud cover since Friday morning were the remnants of the Thursday’s thunderclouds,” said Das.
Friday’s maximum and minimum temperatures were 34 and 24.7 degrees Celsius. The maximum relative humidity was 75 per cent and the minimum relative humidity was 69 per cent.
The Met office forecast partly cloudy sky for Saturday.
