THE NEW bridge between New Town and Sector V has added a number of problems to the residents of CE Block who reside near it, apropos the article “Slender trees for divider near Gate”. In this regard, the concerned authorities are requested to look into the following issues and take necessary measures on urgent basis.
The junction of street 210 and 247 and also street 212 and 247, where the flyover ends has become accidentprone in the absence of any signal or speed breaker. The airport-bound vehicles through this bridge and vehicles using Loha Pool and Thakdari area will meet at these junctions. Some of these vehicles may enter street 210, 212, 214 etc. Vehicles moving towards Biswa Bangla Gate from the above streets also use the same junctions. Movements of multiple vehicles with high speed in the same direction at these points increases the risk of major accidents.
Strangely neither traffic signals at suitable positions nor speed breakers at the above mentioned junctions have been installed so far.
After the pandemic, the population of CE Block has increased manifold. The Loha pool market is the nearest market for daily needs for a large number of the residents of this region and the market space has increased substantially to cater to the needs of the increasing population. Moreover a large number of people of various professions move to and fro from CE Block to Mahisbathan, Balaka and Thakdari. For the residents of CE Block the only way to reach these places or the loha pool market is to walk through the stretch of street 247 in between the bridge and CE Block.
However this stretch is marked one way for vehicles, in the direction of Biswa Bangla Gate. So CE Block residents can’t use their vehicles and have to walk a long way through the above stretch to reach these areas for daily needs or to meet the demands of their profession.
Also the distance of the entry point of the Sector V-bound part of the flyover is about 1.5- 2km from this part of CE Block.
The authorities may consider constructing an underpass at a suitable position as a solution to the difficulties faced by the people of this area.
