The Priyamvada Birla Institute of Nursing, a unit of the Belle Vue Clinic, and Medhavi Skillversity, a Delhi-based institution, launched a range of training programmes for nurses and doctors on Friday.

"Candidates can attend the programmes physically at the Priyamvada Birla Nursing Institute in New Town or they can opt for online courses," said Tondon.

The courses are of different durations, from three days to six months, said Tamorish Kole, founder director and CEO of Medhavi Skillversity.

"Our aim is to make the healthcare professionals skilled enough to do the job they are required to do. The trainings will help them be ready to perform the tasks," he said.

Kole said there would be training modules on advanced trauma care, advanced care needed after a disaster and training in life-support techniques.

Chandrima Bhattacharya, Bengal's minister of state for health, was present at the launch of the training programmes. She said there are 99 nursing institutions in Bengal and 404 of those are private institutions and the rest are run by the government.

Admissions to the courses will start on July 1, said Tondon.

Kole said that India suffered from an inadequacy of nurses and healthcare professionals and also a lack of adequately qualified healthcare professionals. "We are focusing on upskilling healthcare professionals so that they are well qualified to do the job," he said.

Monitoring patients remotely to using tools for caring for patients, upgrading of skills has become important for nurses, said an official at Belle Vue. The rapid technological intervention in the field of healthcare after Covid-19 requires healthcare professionals to stay updated and trained in new technologies, said the official.
