“Sport is not just about the body; it is also about the mind. These students are our future. With the kind of academic pressure they have to perform under, sports is the only outlet for them,” said Omar.

Sanyal, the principal, said the students were very keen on sports and that they had world class sport infrastructure at their campus. “The students have been working hard for weeks to make this event a success. The teachers have guided them at every step too,” she said.

Among sports personalities present were national level basketball player Madhu Kumari, former athlete and Olympian Sanjay Kumar Rai and former footballer Manas Bhattacharya. “I request parents to give equal importance to sports along with academics. It is very important for the mental health and overall well-being of the child,” Bhattacharya said.

This was followed by a colourful display of martial art, sack race, balance race, long jump, juggling and tug of war. Prithvi House was declared champions. Medhasree Ghosh from Class IX was named best athlete among girls while Moulik Kapoor, also from Class IX, was adjudged best athlete among boys. They were greeted with loud cheers as they walked up to collect their prizes from the principal.

“Our children are our pride. They have been our source of strength and inspiration. We hope they continue to achieve great heights in sports after school as well,” said Agarwal.
