CE Block residents spent Vishwakarma puja flying kites, blowing conchshells, walking the ramp, joining quiz and antakshari contests and making plans about the upcoming Durga puja.
“Between khuti pujo and Mahalaya, we wanted to do something for people in the community. So we came up with this idea of celebrating Vishwakarma Puja with everyone,” said Hidco managing director Debashis Sen, who is also the puja president. He was speaking at the pujor adda at CE Block community hall last weekend. “We saw decent participation from people within CE Block and also from outside, who came over for adda.”
Mayor-in-council member (environment) Rahima Bibi Mondal was the chief guest in the evening. She also distributed reusable bags among residents. “This Puja, we have to be very conscious about how we throw out garbage. We will be distributing bags among puja associations so people don’t throw things here and there. We must remember that plastic is our biggest enemy,” said Mondal.
Sen added that the bags were sponsored by a resident who had decided to give a bag to each household. “We are going to keep everything in and around the pandal clean and follow all safety measures,” he said.
“The idea is to create fellow feeling among the residents,” said Rajdeep Dutta, the secretary. “We shall have a selfie booth at our pandal where people can take pictures and create traction on social media. We will also show the puja live from here.” Dutta has a team of professionals looking after the social media marketing of their puja. “This will involve more of the younger crowd so they learn the ropes of organising a puja.”
The winners of the fashion show were Sushmita Sarkar, Sunanda Sen and Mamta Gupta. The winners of the conchshell competition were Malay Chowdhury, Indranil Ghosh and Supratim Chowdhury.
