A power glitch at South City Mall forced shut escalators and air conditioners around 5.30pm on Saturday when the mall was fairly crowded.
“There was a fluctuation in the supply from the CESC, following which some distribution panels malfunctioned and power tripped. As a precautionary measure, we had stopped escalators, elevators and ACs,” said a mall official.
“But the problem lasted for hardly 10 minutes,” he said.
Visitors were befuddled, though, with many shops dark and tills malfunctioning.
A CESC official said there was no glitch in the supply. He attributed the problem to a “circuit fault in the consumer installation”.
“There was no fault on our part. In case of a supply issue, the entire area would have been affected,” he said.
Visitors complained that escalators remained shut for a longer time. “I was in the mall for 30 minutes. I could not use an escalator,” said a Kasba resident.
He went to a hypermarket where the card machine at the billing counter was not working around 5.40pm.
“The executive at the billing counter said there was a power glitch at the mall,” he said.
A mall official said he had no information on card machines facing problems because of the power glitch.
The mall sees a footfall of over 1 lakh on Saturdays, said officials.
