Several roads in the city that were repaired over the past month have again started breaking following heavy rain earlier in the week.
Potholes have appeared on the slope of Bijon Setu towards Kasba, on a stretch of BB Chatterjee Road in Kasba in south Kolkata and on the slope of the Belgachhia bridge towards RG Kar Hospital in the northern part of the city, among others.
Several potholes have also formed on the stretch of Chittaranjan Avenue between the crossings with Mahatama Gandhi Road and Colootala Street.
An official of Kolkata Municipal Corporation said the civic body was working every night to fill potholes that have remained on the roads and would cover them soon.
Many Kolkatans said it was high time the KMC admitted that patchwork repairs were useless.

The potholes are not visible after sundown because there are no street lights where they have formed.
The speed of vehicles is high while rolling down a slope and drivers slam the brakes suddenly, almost on reaching the potholes.
A few vehicles try to swerve to avert falling into the pit.
Both actions carry the risk of an accident, with the vehicles being hit by other vehicles rolling down the bridge behind them.
A number of potholes have formed on a stretch of the Chittaranjan Avenue-Mahatma Gandhi Road intersection and the Chittaranjan Avenue-Colootala Street intersection.
The potholes on this stretch are across the width of the road.
A police officer said the stretch was repaired ahead of the march led by chief minister Mamata Banerjee on September 1 to celebrate Unesco’s inclusion of Durga Puja on its list of intangible cultural heritage.
“The rain over Monday and Tuesday has again damaged the roads. We have informed the KMC and they have promised to repair it in a day or two,” said the officer.
Mayor Firhad Hakim has set a deadline of September 20 to repair all roads in Kolkata.
Hakim has said that he will go on an inspection of roads in the city on the evening of September 20.
Two other stretches where potholes have developed after the recent rains are BB Chatterjee Road, near Rathtala, and on the slope of Belgachhia bridge, towards RG Kar Hospital.
“We are carrying out repairs almost every day. We look for dry spells to undertake repairs,” said the KMC official.
