A police team will revisit the murder site in Kestopur’s Tarulia next week with the two accused to reconstruct the series of events to unearth how 19-year-old Sajid Hossain was killed, a senior officer of Bidhannagar police said on Saturday.

The two accused are now in police custody.

The two, including Gautam Singh, from whose house the body of Hossain was found packed in a suitcase on Friday, and his friend Pappu Ghosh have been arrested for allegedly murdering the 19-year-old from Malda.

Hossain had rented an apartment on the city’s northeastern fringes to prepare for next year’s national medical entrance examination, the police said.

“The reconstruction will help in fixing the exact role of the two accused behind Hossain’s murder and their subsequent attempt to do away with the body,” said a senior police officer.

Hossain’s parents were the first to inform the police about their son’s disappearance and a ransom call allegedly from Singh.

Throughout much of Saturday, officers interrogated Singh, who has a fast food
stall in Mahishbathan, and Ghosh, a house painter, to find out whether more
people were involved in the crime.

Officers said packing Hossain’s body in a suitcase after killing him was a strenuous task and the possibility of a third person being involved could not be ruled out.

“We also want to know from the duo whose idea it was to call Hossain’s parents in Malda and seek a ransom of Rs 30 lakh,” the officer added.

Investigators said it appeared that the accused planned to dispose of Hossain’s body in a suitcase after it dawned on them that their identities could get revealed in the aftermath of the ransom call.

The suitcase was brought in as an “afterthought and the body was packed inside before it could be dumped several kilometres away from the scene of crime”, said an officer who was part of the questioning the arrested duo on Saturday.
