Location: While approaching New Town from Salt Lake, take the lane beside Azad Hind Dhaba opposite Technopolis. Drive straight and the turn right from the T-junction. After travelling for around 30 metres, the puja will be on the left.

The look: The pandal has come from a Barrackpore Durga puja. The main material is wood shaves and about 7,000 foam tridents. There is a huge face of Ravan outside while inside he is seen in small statues, meditating, reading or playing a veena.

Dashadron Byayam Samiti

Year: 45th

Location: After crossing City Centre 2, drive till the Chinar Park four-point crossing. Turn right towards Rajarhat from the crossing. Turn left from Rajarhat Main Road once you reach Dashadron.

The look: The theme is on the seven chakras in the body and how the activities of human beings were disturbing the equilibrium. A human face looms over the pandal with the arms spread like wings across a span of 50ft. There are figures of other birds like owl and peacock which represent the rest of the avian world endangered by human actions.

Pragati Sangha

Year: 55th

Location: Turn right from Rajarhat Main Road on reaching Narayanpur. The puja is held on Sourav Ganguly Avenue, a bit ahead of Jagadish Sporting Club.

The look: The facade is modelled on Albert Hall Museum in Jaipur. Foam and coloured stones have been used to decorate the inner walls.

Location: On the lane between children’s park and Pragati Sangha club building

The look: The pandal here is a recycled one from a Durga puja in Maslandapur. Iron sheets have been cut out to create two-dimensional shapes of insects, birds and fish. There are faces of human beings as well as of the goddess hanging as plates on the walls. The message here too is on the iron grip of so-called development on the animal kingdom.

Netaji Sangha

Location: Lalkuthi, Parthanagari. Close to Naojawan Sangha

The look: Theme-maker Sibshankar Das has paid a tribute to autorickshaw drivers by decorating the pandal façade and entry with 30 shells of autos. Inside, there are monochromatic paintings of the outlines of autos.
