A woman who went to a south Kolkata hospital for treatment of a kidney ailment has alleged that the doctor had groped her and harassed her by making multiple calls on her number after she had left the hospital.
An FIR has been drawn up against the doctor named in the complaint lodged by the 28-year-old woman with Tollygunge police station. According to the complaint, she had gone to the hospital on March 26 and registered her name with the urology department.
“The woman has alleged that the doctor touched her private parts while pretending to treat her... While she was returning home, she allegedly received a call from the doctor who had apparently taken her phone number from the hospital’s register,” said an officer.
The woman has alleged that the doctor had been calling her on and off.
Cops have started a case under sections of outrage of modesty of a woman and outrage of modesty of a woman with words and gestures.
The charges, if proved, could lead to a maximum punishment of five years in jail.
Teenager found hanging
A 15-year-old Class X student of a school near Tollygunge was found hanging in his room on Wednesday evening.
“The boy was not responding to knocks on the door of his room. The family alerted neighbours and broke open the door to find him hanging from the ceiling fan,” police said.
“We did not find a suicide note. His family members said he was sounding depressed for the past few days, but the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.”
