The judicial remand of former minister Partha Chatterjee and three former officials, who are in custody in connection with allegedly illegal appointment of Group C staff for government-aided schools, has been extended till October 31.
All four have to be produced in the court in person on the next date of hearing (October 31).
Chatterjee’s co-accused in the case are Santi Prasad Sinha and Ashoke Saha, former officials of the state school service commission, and Kalyanmoy Ganguly, former president of the state secondary education board.
The judge in the CBI Court I, who extended the remand of the four on Friday, had during the last hearing ordered the physical production of Chatterjee and the other accused.
But acting on a prayer submitted by the Presidency Correctional Home on Friday, they were allowed to be produced virtually.
Lawyer Sk Salim Rahman, who is representing Chatterjee, said: “Since a chargesheet in the case has been filed, I sought earliest possible hearing of my client’s bail plea. It is his legal right to get bail. The matter will be heard on October 31.”
The court passed an order in the evening saying the accused were produced virtually following a communication from Presidency jail and they should be produced physically on October 31.
