Sagnik Chakraborty, live-in partner of actress Pallavi Dey who was found hanging in their rented apartment at Garfa near Jadavpur in south Kolkata on Sunday morning, has been arrested based on her father’s complaint.
Chakraborty has been booked under IPC sections related to murder, cheating, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and dishonest misappropriation of property, said Atul V., deputy commissioner of police in charge of south suburban division of Kolkata police.
He was called to Garfa police station on Tuesday and arrested, said an officer. Pallavi’s family had lodged a complaint with the police station alleging that Chakraborty and a woman had killed the actress.
The woman denied the allegation while speaking to The Telegraph on Monday and said she had no relationship with Chakraborty. Officers investigating the case said they might question her.
“Several inconsistencies have been found in Chakraborty’s statements regarding his work and source of income. We have found that he had closed his Salt Lake office a week before the victim died and is currently jobless. He, however, did not say this when we asked him about his profession,” said an officer.
The actress’s family has alleged that Chakraborty had forced her to pay for an apartment they were buying in Rajarhat.
Sleuths have come to know that Pallavi had spoken to her domestic help twice, hours before she was found hanging on Sunday morning.
