The West Bengal government on Thursday extended the Covid-19 related restrictions and relaxations till October 30.

In an official communique from Nabanna, the Bengal government announced that the restrictions which were already in place will continue throughout October.

However, in view of the Durga Puja festival in October, the government has decided to do away with the night curfew on Puja days.

As mandated by the last order night curfew will be in place from 11pm to 5am except from October 10 to October 20 during the Puja days.

The order on Thursday has further directed the administration and the police to ensure strict compliance with the Covid-19 norms.

Around a week ago, the number of daily new Covid cases in Bengal was almost five times less compared with the count about a fortnight before last year’s Durga Puja, a change that experts are attributing to vaccination.

Many hospitals in Kolkata have far fewer Covid patients admitted compared with the number of patients they had to care for two weeks before Puja 2020.
