The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) will renovate parks across New Town that have been lying in a state of neglect with defunct lights and play furniture, a senior NKDA official said on Friday.
According to the official, NKDA carried out a survey of parks and green verges, long contiguous patches of green that bifurcates blocks like a median divider, across Action Areas I, II and III.
The survey focused on the state of lights inside the parks, the play furniture, the landscape and the walking or jogging tracks inside parks.
Based on the findings, NKDA officials have decided to revamp the entire illumination as well as the decorative lighting system of the Sonar Kella Park in BG Block I of Action Area I.
“Many of the lights here have stopped working and we have decided to replace them. The greens inside will also be spruced up and if need be the installations at the park will be given a fresh coat of paint,” the official said.
This apart, the park in CE Block and the green verge number 5, near water tank number 21 behind New Town police station in ActionArea III, will also be spruced up.
A new children’s park along with a small playground is also coming up in New Town’s AC Block behind the DLF I bus stop on the Major Arterial Road.
Parks in New Town are popular hangout spots.
Several parks double up as football, cricket and martial arts coaching camps apart from hosting activity classes like yoga and meditation.
