Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM) — a unit of National Council of Science Museums, Union ministry of culture, nestled at Gurusaday Dutta Road in south Kolkata — is going to launch a science magic show to highlight the enabling role played by science and technology.
The initiative comes under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years of the country’s Independence.
BITM will also conduct an open-house quiz on ‘Development of Science & Technology in India’ and a film show on ‘Indian Scientist’ to celebrate India’s scientific spirit from August 13 to 19.
Introducing core concepts of science in a live interactive demonstration, BITM is scheduled to launch the magic show on August 13 for school students ahead of Independence Day. The show has been named ‘Tales of Tricolour’ and it will highlight scientific principles behind seemingly magical feats. The existing magic show at BITM has been showcasing floating balloons or flying balls at will – freezing liquids in a flash or fiddling with swirling torrents and this time in Tricolour.
Indu Chandra, principal, Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar, will launch the inaugural show at 11am on August 13 in the presence of BITM curator Rajib Nath.
Around 200 school students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ballygunge, Park Circus Girls’ High School, Baranagar Mohan Girls’ High School and Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar will attend this inaugural show.
The show will be open to all age groups and will be available to school groups upon prior booking.
