Geetanjali building in Sector V, Salt Lake, is being converted into a miniature park that has been christened Jai Hind Park and will be inaugurated on January 23.

The park will be dedicated to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and a small workshop followed by cultural events will be held from January 23 to January 26 to commemorate Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary, said a senior official of the Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA), which is constructing the park.

The field has been cleared and grass mats will be laid. Saplings and potted plants will be installed in the park along with LED lights.

A bust of Netaji will be unveiled on January 23 and a small exhibition will be opened for the public.

The park is being built keeping in mind that Sector V has huge buildings across all blocks but has very little open space or patches of green.

Debashis Sen, NDITA chairman, said that though small, the exhibition will be set up in such a way that even passersby could be a part of it as all the exhibits will be visible from a distance.

“We will also organise a small talk show and a workshop where a limited number of participants will be invited to be physically present. The event will be broadcast digitally as well,” said Sen.

State urban development and municipal affairs minister Chandrima Bhattacharya is expected to inaugurate the park, another senior NDITA official said.
