Ajay Pratap Singh has been appointed as the new director general (DG) of National Library from June 7.

In a notification on Monday, the Union Ministry of Culture said Singh, who is also DG of Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation, will hold the additional charge either for six months or till the post is filled up.

Singh visited the National Library compound in Alipore on Tuesday afternoon and interacted with the staff and visitors.

This, however, is not his maiden stint at National Library. He had already served as acting DG of National Library from March 23 to December 2, 2021.

The newly appointed DG told PTI that technology-based support system upgrades would be prioritised at the library in Alipore and also in its Esplanade hub, the latter being a repository of newspapers and periodicals.
