A Kestopur resident in northeast Kolkata was arrested early on Sunday for allegedly duping a city-based businessman of Rs 4 lakh, an officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said.
Bidhannagar police conducted a joint raid with officers from the Narendraour police station and picked up Suman Jana, 41, from his apartment in Kestopur on the basis of a complaint lodged by the businessman with the Narendrapur police station.
A senior officer of the Baruipur police district said they conducted a raid on Jana’s apartment after Ansu Chaudhary, a director of AR Surgicals Private Limited, lodged a complaint against Jana for swindling company funds amounting to Rs 4 lakh.
According to the officer, Jana used to work as a representative for the company who was tasked to visit different outlets selling surgical instruments and sell the company’s products as well as distribute the products to different private healthcare units across the city.
“Jana had collected payments received after selling the equipment but he never deposited them in the company’s accounts. He had also tried to encash several cheques issued to the company by their customers,” said the officer.
Jana stopped reporting for work when company started to call up the shops and ask then to clear their payments. It was then thathis fraud came to the light, the police said.
