Monsoon has retreated from all of Bengal for this year, the Met office said on Saturday.
“Southwest monsoon withdrew from entire Bengal on Saturday,” said a Met bulletin.
The normal date of the season’s withdrawal is October 12.
Weather scientists had spotted a telltale reversal of wind flow, which marks the withdrawal of the monsoon, around October 11. Southwest monsoon would withdraw from most parts of the state by October 13, the Met office had said.
“But a fresh low-pressure area, that had formed over the Andaman sea and moved across the Bay of Bengal towards the Andhra and Odisha coasts, delayed the retreat,” said Sanjib Bandyopadhyay, the deputy director-general of the India Meteorological Department, Calcutta.
“From now, the night temperature will start dropping. There will not be any major change in the day temperatures as of now,” he said.
