“We have a CAT 3 instrument landing system in place at the airport that allows flights to land even when the visibility falls to 50m,” said airport director C. Pattabhi.

High moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, coupled with easterly winds, led to the fog cover in the city, said a Met official. “From Thursday evening, another rainy spell is likely,” G.K. Das, the director, IMD, Kolkata.

The moisture incursion has pushed the Celsius up. The minimum temperature in Kolkata was 17.4 degrees on Wednesday. On Sunday, the minimum temperature was 11.7 degrees.
