The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) West Bengal has predicted the heatwave to continue till April 19 in Kolkata and several districts of south Bengal.
An orange alert has been issued for Kolkata, South and North 24 Parganas, Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Burdwan, Jhargram, Purulia, Nadia, Bankura, Birbhum and Murshidabad.
According to the Met office, the weather is likely to be dry with heatwaves in the places mentioned above.
The maximum temperature will be around 40° to 42°C in Kolkata and adjoining areas.
Experts advise people in south Bengal to take enough precautions to be protected from the prevailing heatwave.
However, a heatwave warning in the districts of north Bengal has been ruled out from April 14 in the recent IMD update.
IMD has stated that Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Dinajpur and Malda will most likely experience dry weather between April 14-21.
