Dilip Kumar Roy after turning 100

Dilip Kumar Roy, grandson of iconic poet Rajanikanta Sen, passed away at age 105 in his Dover Terrace home on the afternoon of September 23. He had been ailing for some time.

Dilipbabu or Mastermoshai, as he was known by most, had been music trainer with HMV from the 1940s to the 1960s. He also trained students of St. Xavier’s College, where he was lecture demonstrator of chemistry.

Roy is also known for his pioneering efforts in popularising Rajanikanta songs on AIR.

Born on April 27, 1917, Roy was the eldest of five siblings. He was the son of Santilata Roy, eldest daughter of Rajanikanta Sen.

He was also a poet and composer and elocutionist, especially of Tagore’s poems.

As a singer, Roy cut several discs.
