The body of a 26-year-old man was found on a van-rickshaw behind a puja pandal in Telengabagan in Ultadanga in northeast Kolkata early on Monday, police said.

There were no injury marks on the body but police officers who went the spot found drops of blood on the van-rickshaw.

The body has been sent for post-mortem. The victim was later identified as Loknath Dutta who became the father of a girl child less than a month ago.

Some residents told the police that they had heard two men screaming at the top of their voices late on Sunday but no one had stepped out to see what was happening behind the Kali Puja pandal.

“It appears to be a case of death due to an accidental fall. Possibly, during the heated altercation the man with Dutta had pushed him. The post-mortem report will reveal the cause of death,” said a senior officer of Ultadanga police station.
