The body of a 58-year-old man was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his friend’s Golf Green office in south Kolkata on Friday morning. The man, police said, worked with a film production house.
Pankaj Das, a resident of Mangalam Park in Parnasree, was at his friend’s office at Arabinda Nagar in Golf Green since Thursday night.
“Das had tried to end his life at the railway tracks near Narendrapur on Thursday night but his friend managed to convince him over the phone and saved him. Das then went to his friend’s office,” said a police officer.
On Friday, Das called his friend and asked him to come to the office but by the time the friend reached the office, Das had already ended his life, the police said.
An officer said Das, who had split with his family a few years ago, was suffering from a financial crunch.
Das was last seen sitting in his friend’s office around 11am by a help who came to clean the office. When the friend reached the office around 12.15pm, he found Das hanging from the ceiling fan and informed the police. Das was declared dead at hospital.
“Das was trying to open a cafe and was facing certain obstacles. We have informed the family about his death,” said the senior officer.
Police said an unnatural death case has been registered with Golf Green police station. A suicide note was found on Das.
