Asha workers’ agitation in several parts of the state for better payment and permanent status yielded some results it seems with the chief minister Mamata Banerjee making a major announcement in this regard. Inaugurating a Puja pandal, she said Asha workers in villages will receive the same bonus amount as their counterparts in the cities.
Tension over decapitated body in Hooghly
Tension prevailed at Tokipur area in Hooghly district after the decapitated body of a Trinamool worker was recovered. The victim, Sheikh Rafiq, 30, is survived by his wife and three-year-old child.
Soon after the incident, the blame game began. According to family sources, Rafiq had gone to the local club as usual. However, on Wednesday, after his headless body was recovered, TMC’s Arambagh organisational district chief, Jaydev Jana, blamed the BJP and said, “It’s revenge politics.” BJP, however vehemently denied the charge. However, Rafiq’s family members presented a love angle twist to the case and said he reportedly had an affair and they alleged that the girl may have hired goons to eliminate him. A probe has been initiated.
