Madhyamik Pariksha examinee found dead in Salt Lake

The girl’s body was found hanging near a staircase under which she would often study

The body of a girl who was appearing for Madhyamik exams this year was found hanging in a house in Salt Lake in northeast Kolkata on Wednesday.

According to police, the girl’s father works as a caretaker in the house and lives there with his family. The owners of the house would visit occasionally.

The girl’s body was found hanging near a staircase under which she would often study.

Wednesday was the history exam and she was scheduled to write the paper at Bidhanangar Municipal School at noon.

“She was supposed to leave for school around 11.15am. She was alone in the house at the time. Her delay prompted her mother and brother to break open the door and enter the house to find her hanging with a sari around her neck,” said an officer of Bidhannagar East police station.

The student of Begum Rokeya Smriti Balika Vidyalaya was taken to Bidhannagar Subdivisional hospital where she was declared dead, the police said.

An autopsy was on till late on Wednesday.

The police are talking to her friends and family to find the reason behind her death.

She had written the life science paper on Tuesday.

“Her parents said that she had told them that she had written a good paper,” an officer said.
