Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of Calcutta High Court on Thursday appointed two lawyers each from both sides, the petitioners and the primary education board, to find out whether 10 relatives of a bodyguard of former education minister Partha Chatterjee had at all appeared in the 2014 teachers’ eligibility test (TET).

The judge asked the lawyers to file their report in court on September 14.

The petitioners, who have alleged corruption in school recruitments during Chatterjee’s tenure as education minister, had alleged that 10 relatives of the guard, Biswambhar Mandal, were given jobs in primary schools.

Following the submission, the court had asked the CBI to question those 10 persons. During a hearing of the case on Thursday, the court learnt that only four of the 10 persons had been questioned by the CBI.

In another development, the state’s primary education board has placed the merit list of candidates who appeared in the 2016 and 2020 TETs, along with four big bags full of examination documents, in Justice Gangopadhyay’s court.

The judge declined to accept the lists as the marks obtained by the candidates were not mentioned and asked the board to place fresh lists by September 21.

Justice Gangopadhyay on Thursday expressed his approval of the present committee of the school service commission and said: “I was a part of the organisation once. I felt pain while sending the CRPF to this organisation. Persons like Nrishinga Prasad Bhaduri and Aveek Majumdar are in the organisation.”

The judge had earlier asked the CRPF to guard the commission’s Salt Lake office to ensure documents were not tampered with.
