The family that lost three of its members in an accident in Lake Town last month received the mangled remains of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis on Friday evening.
Police said a mechanical test and a forensic examination of the vehicle had been conducted and the reports were awaited. “We have conducted the necessary tests and do not need the car any further for the investigation. Hence it has been returned to the family,” said an officer.
Shivshankar Rathi, his mother Kamala, his son Shrivatsa and their driver Ankit Kumar Mahato died after a private bus crashed into the Maruti Suzuki Ignis while they were returning home after Shivshankar’s daughter Ayushi’s wedding early on June 26.
The driver of the bus, which had allegedly been stolen, was in a rush to flee police chasing it and smashed the car from behind while it was at a red signal at the Clock Tower crossing.
The car was handed over to Shivshankar’s wife, Sarala.
Sarala had returned home in another car on the morning of the crash.
