NGT panel for water body
The National Green Tribunal on Tuesday constituted a three-member committee of state pollution control board (PCB) officials to examine whether bam boo structures in a water body next to Science City have had a "deleterious" impact on its aquatic life. The committee, to be headed by PCB chair person Kalyan Rudra, will have to collect water samples and submit a report on the quality to the tribunal. The NGT's order came in response to a petition from environment activist Subhas Datta, who said in the petition that the water body falls in the buffer zone of the East Kolkata Wetlands.
